Laptop computer cases come in a variety of different shapes and sizes to suit all needs. My own personal favourite is not so popular. Basically I have a two hour commute to work (each way!) so I find that a moulded resin case is perfect. For some people it might look too bulky but I find it great because the storage space is so great: I can fit my notebook, power supply, accessories and also papers and stationary! It’s hard enough that I can also use it as an impromptu table too! But clearly if you need a case just to store your computer in your house or for much more limited travel then you will have totally different needs to my own.
Companies make laptop computer cases to fit every need there is. Some people do a lot of travelling and may find it hard lugging their laptop around all the time (laptops are not as light as we would like them to be, yet). This is especially the case for women. A case with wheels is therefore really handy because you don’t need to expend energy just to keep it in a constantly raised off the ground position. By contrast, a heavy briefcase like the one I have can make the fingers, arms and shoulders start to hurt fairly quickly, and make you break an unsightly sweat too!
Don’t forget about the weight of your computer too. Unfortunately, many of us cannot afford a super-light notebook (they seem to be made for tiny fingers too!). Many of the regular multimedia family laptops are quite bulky and can weigh upwards of ten pounds when you include the power supply and accessories. Some of these laptops resemble a “space ship” in size and weight! And when you add the weight of the bag then the total can be quite hefty. Might not sound like much now but when you start to carry it all then you will regret it. So for me, one of the biggest criteria when looking to buy laptop computer cases is the weight. Because if you can’t physically carry it the distance and time you need to then the styling or even the protection offered quickly become meaningless.
